ZPU-1 Examination

On 18.10.2009 we have successfully passed with Merlin through another exam; this time the ZPU-1 examination based on the Czech national dog training regulations. The full Czech name of the shortcut “ZPU” I would perhaps translate as “Exam of Usability of a Working Dog”. This exam consists of three blocks: (1) 150 steps long „nose-tracking“ trial, including finding and unambiguous “marking” of 2 objects of maximally 10x10 cm, (2) individual obedience block without leash consisting of several exercises including also passing some barriers and (3) obedience in group of dogs out of leash including test of behaviour in different situations like e.g. reaction to sudden strong noise. Since we have obtained 134 out of max. 150 points, we have not got the best, but second best evaluation. However, Merlin was the second best dog in the whole exam and we are very happy about the result.
